BIOTIC CONDITIONS

Rodents abundance evaluation:

low

Breeding conditions:

Two Brown Bears and a Red Fox were mammalian predators recorded. Avian predators were represented by White-tailed Sea Eagles and Short-eared Owls which were not numerous. We found nests and broods of different species of passerines, Willow Grouse, Herring Gulls, Common Gulls, Arctic Terns, Dunlins, Red-necked Phalaropes, Terek Sandpipers, Ruffs, Wood Sandpipers, temminck's Stints, Pintails, and European Wigeons in the Nygchekveem and Tumanskaya rivers' floodplains and southern watershed tundra. Broods of Pacific Divers, Red-throated Divers, White-fronted Geese, Emperor Geese, Bewick's Swans, and Sabine's Gull were recorded in the coastal tundra of the Tymna Lagoon. Moulting aggregations of thousands of White-fronted Geese were observed at the latter locality. Generally the season was, probably, favourable for most groups of birds, with the average or above breeding success.

Rodent dynamics:

Microtine rodents and signs of their activities were not recorded. Arctic Ground Squirrels were observed.
